Brief History

CEPRES INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY (CIU) is owned and operated by the Center for Environmental & Public Health Research (CEPRES). CEPRES was established in November 2014 by Dr. Mogana S. Flomo, Jr. The Institution received recognition from the Government of Liberia to operate in the country on February 10, 2015. To date, we have had the opportunity to recruit more than 500 (five hundred) young Liberians that are learning skills in environment and health sciences.

CEPRES graduated the first 15 students in February, 2016. In March 2016, we had the first International Environmental Research Conference in Gbarnga, Bong County. The conference was attended by both national and international guests including professors from some of our partner universities and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Liberia.

Currently, CEPRES is for the first time in Liberia, training young Liberians to serve as Environmental Volunteers. The objectives of this training program include i) Redirecting the focus of the young people from drugs, alcohol, and other social issues to the issues facing the environment and making them to be a part of the solution of the problems at hand, ii) Training the young people to become advocates of the environment, iii) Helping to clean Liberian cities and communities to make them safe to live, iv) supporting the health system through promoting preventive health, v) Making Liberia to be aware of the consequences of Climate Change, showing communities how to mitigate or avoid the disasters that come as a result of Climate Change and knowing how to be a Climate Change Resilient Nation. On November 19, 2016, CEPRES graduated 112 youths in these specialized areas.

CEPRES is working with various communities in promoting health and Environmental sanity. Activities such as waste management, water testing and treatment, health promotion amongst other things are our major involvement with the communities. Currently, the Gbarnga City Corporation has hired the services of our graduates to assist with the cleaning of the city. We are working to make sure that all counties in Liberia benefit this program.

On December 10, 2016, a groundbreaking ceremony was held to construct the official home of CEPRES International Univeristy. The value of the project was estimated above 1.6 Million United Sates Dollars.
